2012

Anew began with the name Created Gainesville in 2012. We became the first and only place to date dedicated to reaching and restoring lives caught in sex trafficking and sexual exploitation in North Central Florida. We began by building an outreach program committed to going to the places in our community most known for trafficking and exploitation. We focused on building trust and creating a safe space to invite survivors into community and belonging. Here, women were empowered to begin breaking cycles of trauma and vulnerability.

2015

Our comprehensive non residential program was launched. This program was developed from the input of survivors met on outreach who identified their greatest needs for healing and restoration. We have been offering support and services to women ever since with the aim of meeting greater and more diverse needs of survivors.

2017

We launched our first youth prevention initiatives. Our one-hour prevention presentations teach youth ages 11-18 how to identify sex traffickers, the signs of trafficking, how to protect themselves, what to do if they suspect a friend is in danger, and resources that are available in the community. These programs are always provided free of charge and may be requested by any school or organization that serves youth.

2022

We opened our first safe home. This was the first safe home of its kind in North Central Florida. Upon opening, our collaboration with law enforcement and service providers both statewide and nationally has deepened. As a trusted service provider in the state, more survivors have had access to the services they need as well as the ability to relocate from the area where trafficking occured.

2023

Upon invitation by the Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Children and Families, we helped create the first statewide standards for adult safe homes serving survivors of human trafficking. This is for future accreditation requirements for the State of Florida.

We also presented “Best Practices in Survivor Care” in a 2023 statewide conference attended by 11,000 judges, attorneys, law enforcement, victim advocates, service providers, and more.

2024

We revealed our new name, Anew, reflecting how our impact has grown beyond Gainesville to a national reach. We now receive referrals statewide and nationally from anti-trafficking hotlines, law enforcement, victim advocates, service providers, and family members who are looking for a safe place for their client or loved one to receive the care they need.
